Battle of the Books!

6th-8th graders, we're looking for you!

Monday, August 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 is our annual Battle of the Books, and we need kids entering 6th-8th grades to participate!

Here's how it works: You and your team of three others have to read all of the Rebecca Caudill nominee books. That's a total of 20 books, which is about 5 per person. At the Battle, each team will have to answer questions about these books to see which team knows the most! The answers to the questions are always the title of the book. For example, you might be asked, "In what book does the main character find a dragon egg?" The answer to that one would be "Eragon!" If you know the author too (Christopher Paolini), you get an extra point!

We have prizes at the end and pizza for everyone--you'll have a great time! If you're interested, call the library at (708) 474-2447 ASAP so we can get you set up with a team. Or if you and your friends are interested, make a team of four and call us! The more, the merrier!

"Joust Read!" has begun!

We're now taking sign-ups for our Teen Summer Reading Program. So if you live in Lansing, get in here and sign up!

Don't forget, we have three informational meetings coming up next week. Monday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. is our Book Buddies Meeting. Book Buddies is a storytime for kids where teens (grades 9-12) read the stories. If you like kids and you like to read, consider participating in Book Buddies! Come to this meeting to find out more details.

Don't miss our Battle of the Books Informational Meeting on Tuesday, June 14 at 12:00 p.m. If you'd like to participate in the Battle of the Books, come to this meeting and we'll form teams. Don't forget, you can plan your own team if you know who you'd like to be with--just let us know at the meeting. The Battle of the Books is open to all 6th-8th graders. Get the details on how the battle works when you sign up for Summer Reading!

And while you're here for the Battle meeting, why not stay for our Teen Advisory Board Lunch? We're looking for teens in grades 6-12 to tell us what's right and wrong with Lansing Library's Teen Services! Think we need better books? More programs? Different magazines? Join our TAB to make your voice heard. Lunch is at 12:30--the library will supply pizza and drinks!

Watch this blog for reminders of upcoming programs. Or better yet, why not suscribe so you don't miss anything?
