The Schwa was Here by Neal Shusterman

Have you ever met someone who you forget about completely the next day? You couldn't pick him out of a line-up or anything. It's like he was just wiped out of your mind.

Enter Calvin "The Schwa" Schwa. The Schwa is what his three friends call "observationally challenged". Finally the four boys, led by Antsy Bonano, test the Schwa Effect by dressing him up in funny clothes and see if anyone notices him. Few do, not always including Antsy. Antsy and the Schwa decided to use this more as a gift than a curse. Dares start pouring in preceding a little cash.

Finally the big dare comes around. The Schwa must go inside the neighborhood hermit, Mr. Crawley's, house and steal one of his fourteen dog dishes. The act doesn't go as well as hoped, being as Mr. Crawley notices The Schwa. Instead of having them arrested for trespassing, Mr. Crawley puts them to work. With the help of Antsy, Crawley's blind granddaughter Lexie, and a crazy European butcher, The Schwa tries to find out what happened to his mother and what's going to happen to him in the future.

This book is full of crazy characters and unexpectant turns that keep your interests held tight.

Nick & Norah - A Musical Love Story

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan is a passionately electric book full of music references, late night burlesque shows, kissing, joy, intellegent characters, confusion, first date/last date? angst,a "queercore" rock band with a straight bass player, ex girl/boy friends, sensuality, mental intimacy, anxiety...

What, are you looking for MORE? It's all in this well written and entertaining book.

It was one of those books that I read almost straight through because I didn't want to put it down. Even if you don't know all the bands that are mentioned, or like all the music that the characters like, the feelings they feel are familiar and you care about what happens to them.

People in grades 9 - 12 can join in the book discussion about this one. The discussion is on Wednesday November 15th from 7-8pm. Sign up at the Teen Desk and get your book now!

Or, if you just want to check it out, you can do that too!

Sneak Peek

Now, as many of you may recall, Eragon by Christopher Paolini got the most votes last year as a Rebecca Caudill nominee. But that was not the last to be seen of Eragon and his dragon Saphira. This December, Eragon the movie is being released. It's starring Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, and newcomerEdward Speleers as Eragon.

Here's a brief recap of the story, in case you forgot:
Eragon lives in a small town with his uncle and cousin. One day while hunting in the forest known as the Spine, Eragon comes across a smooth blue rock. The rock, which is really an egg, hatches to show a baby dragon. Eragon is left with the responibility to single-handedly restart the long dead Dragon Riders, at the opposition of the king. Throughout his journey to find his place in the world, he meets some very interesting people.

Check out Eragon next time to stop by or request it here to find out more about his adventures.
If you've already read Eragon, check out the sequel, Eldest here.

Keep an eye open for chances to win prizes in December in honor of the Eragon movie!
