Does My Head Look Big in This?

Amal is an Australian-Muslim high school girl who makes a big decision--to wear the hijab, or Muslim head scarf, full-time. She's worried about how her friends will react, what her enemies will say, if her parents will support her decision, and if her crush, Adam, will react differently, but her faith is strong and she wears the scarf anyway. Amal isn't surprised when she runs into trouble, from taunts on the bus to snide comments at school, but she handles it all and manages to stay true to herself.

Simply put--I loved this book. It's a great story about being a teenager and trying to fit in while not compromising your beliefs or feelings. It's a story about tolerance that isn't preachy in the slightest. It taught me a lot about Muslim beliefs and made me wish there were more stories like it. Along with the religious aspects you'll find a well-written book that you can't put down. If you're looking for a story about crushing on boys, hanging out with friends, dealing with parents that don't understand you, and surviving the mess that's called high school, you'll enjoy this book.
